As the weather changes and temperatures drop, so does the moisture in our skin. Just as we’ve sorted out a perfect skin routine for the warmer days, they’re gone. Cold weather dries out our skin because there is less moisture in the air.
Usually, at least for me, I’m left scrambling for lotions and ways to quench my skin’s sudden thirst. As this process has hit me once again, I’ve figured out a few tips to keeping my skin as hydrated as it was just a few months ago.
First, work exfoliation into your #skinroutine. When our skin dries out, it causes a build up of dead skin. Not only will this make your skin look dull, your moisturizer will also be less effective. Exfoliating removes the layer of dead skin blocking your moisturizer. It will also give your skin a radiant glow that seems to be often swallowed by the temperature drops.
One of my favorites is the Me Care 3-in-1 bourbon-infused Whisked Sugar Scrub & Wash. It is perfect for exfoliating on a daily basis. This product is a cleanser that gently exfoliates and hydrates at the same time. I keep this one in the shower!
A 3-in-1 product is also perfect for limiting shower time, which can be another cause of dry skin. It’s so tempting to take a long, hot shower after being out all day in the cold. Excessive exposure to hot water tends to further dry your skin out. A 5-10 minute shower is ideal for this time of year.
Probably the most obvious tip is to moisturize. I always like to moisturize first thing in the morning, when I get out of the shower, and right before bed. These times make it easy to add moisturizing into your previously-set routines. If you’re using the right kind of moisturizers, 2-3 times a day is all you need. This is where investing in a quality moisturizer matters.
Cheap moisturizers are filled with fluff-- which is what makes them cheap. They also contain fragrance chemicals which can further irritate and dry out the skin.
My favorite to keep beside my bed is the Me Care Whipped Body Butter. This moisturizer is mango, shea and coconut butter--that’s it! Simply Southern is my favorite scent right now… it’s subtle and classic and goes on just like butter. It’s the fluffiest lotion I’ve ever put on my skin and it only takes a dime size!
Work these four #tips into your daily/weekly #routine and, just like magic, your skin will be as radiant and hydrated as it is in the summer.
